Del had arrived in time to overhear most of the discussion, and it only made him prouder that this was his future mate. Throwing down and taking namesâ¦and quietly using the right amount of pressure to guide what could have been a volatile situation.
Wolves were not always known for their logic. Not when it came to the power hierarchy.
He waited until both the younger women were busy with tasks before catching Stacyâs eye and crooking a finger at her.
She flushed as she walked into the living room. âHey. I thought you were working at your office today.â
âHey. Already put in the morning. My assistant, Angie, kicked me out when I started whining about missing you.â
Yup, definitely a flush on her pretty cheeks. What was she thinking about? Hopefully something good.
Stacy crossed to his side then rose on her toes and pressed a quick kiss to his cheek. âI missed you too,â she said softly.
They stood there grinning at each other for a moment before he remembered he had one item on his official list, other than ogling her, that needed to be dealt with. âCome here.â
Del guided her to the couch, settling with her fingers still in his.
Stacy lifted her chin. âThis is cozy, but you have something on your mind.â
âI do. Back to our discussion a few days ago, somethingâs come up with a potential question about your ex.â Her cheeks lost their colour, and he hurried to reassure her. âIt might be nothing, but I need to follow up. Do you know someone named Dwight Tremblant? Did Porter ever mention an estranged brother?â
âNever,â she answered immediately. âPorter said he was an only child. In fact,â she paused, a crease forming between her eyes as she concentrated. âThat was one of the things he told me that connected him so quickly to James. That they were both solo kids who lost their parents early. Dwight must be totally unrelated to Porter.â
âOr heâs someone trying to pull a fast one. Or Porter lied.â
She sniffed. âEntirely possible. The Porter lying part.â Stacy shook her head. âSo, no. I donât know a Dwight.â
âThatâs all I need right now. Donât worry about it,â Del said again. âIâll take care of it.â
âThatâs your job,â she affirmed sweetly.
âAnd your job is to be the Timberwolf Lodge Kitchen Alpha.â Del wanted to eat her up in one bite. âYouâre very sexy when youâre all dominant, by the way.â
Her cheeks flushed even harder this time. âPeople hearing every word thatâs said in a five mile radius is a hard thing to get used to.â
âI want to have you go all Alpha on me in your kitchen. Want to have your way with me? Order me to make you a sandwich?â
âIs that a new euphemism for talking?â Her eyes sparkled. âNot that weâve managed to do much, if any, talking these past days.â
âI know. Iâm sorry.â
She shushed him sweetly. âNever mind. Iâm not really complaining. I understand what you do is important. Iâll have to be patient and wait.
