Del had arrived in time to overhear most of the discussion, and it only made him prouder that this was his future mate. Throwing down and taking names…and quietly using the right amount of pressure to guide what could have been a volatile situation.

Wolves were not always known for their logic. Not when it came to the power hierarchy.

He waited until both the younger women were busy with tasks before catching Stacy’s eye and crooking a finger at her.

She flushed as she walked into the living room. “Hey. I thought you were working at your office today.”

“Hey. Already put in the morning. My assistant, Angie, kicked me out when I started whining about missing you.”

Yup, definitely a flush on her pretty cheeks. What was she thinking about? Hopefully something good.

Stacy crossed to his side then rose on her toes and pressed a quick kiss to his cheek. “I missed you too,” she said softly.

They stood there grinning at each other for a moment before he remembered he had one item on his official list, other than ogling her, that needed to be dealt with. “Come here.”

Del guided her to the couch, settling with her fingers still in his.

Stacy lifted her chin. “This is cozy, but you have something on your mind.”

“I do. Back to our discussion a few days ago, something’s come up with a potential question about your ex.” Her cheeks lost their colour, and he hurried to reassure her. “It might be nothing, but I need to follow up. Do you know someone named Dwight Tremblant? Did Porter ever mention an estranged brother?”

“Never,” she answered immediately. “Porter said he was an only child. In fact,” she paused, a crease forming between her eyes as she concentrated. “That was one of the things he told me that connected him so quickly to James. That they were both solo kids who lost their parents early. Dwight must be totally unrelated to Porter.”

“Or he’s someone trying to pull a fast one. Or Porter lied.”

She sniffed. “Entirely possible. The Porter lying part.” Stacy shook her head. “So, no. I don’t know a Dwight.”

“That’s all I need right now. Don’t worry about it,” Del said again. “I’ll take care of it.”

“That’s your job,” she affirmed sweetly.

“And your job is to be the Timberwolf Lodge Kitchen Alpha.” Del wanted to eat her up in one bite. “You’re very sexy when you’re all dominant, by the way.”

Her cheeks flushed even harder this time. “People hearing every word that’s said in a five mile radius is a hard thing to get used to.”

“I want to have you go all Alpha on me in your kitchen. Want to have your way with me? Order me to make you a sandwich?”

“Is that a new euphemism for talking?” Her eyes sparkled. “Not that we’ve managed to do much, if any, talking these past days.”

“I know. I’m sorry.”

She shushed him sweetly. “Never mind. I’m not really complaining. I understand what you do is important. I’ll have to be patient and wait.
